Why does my demi-pointe suck?

I practice and practice but I can%26#039;t seem to get my foot to %26quot;look%26quot; right. It just doesn%26#039;t seem to have the shape the others feet do when I%26#039;m in demi pointe. They have such pretty feet and I hate mine.
Why does my demi-pointe suck?
I have flat feet. They are not dancer%26#039;s feet either. To make bigger arches do an excersize. Sit on the floor and pointe through your foot, but dont just pointe or sickle your toes. Do this over and over and your arches well strengthen. My feet are now getting stronger. Do releves and lots of excerizes on 3/4 pointe and make sure you get all the way to 3/4 pointe.

I hope this information helped.
Why does my demi-pointe suck?
When on demi (or releve, which ever), make sure that you are completely over your toes...in other words, make your demi a very high one by having your arch perpendicular to the floor (without overdoing it and rolling forward).

Your arches will strengthen over time, and to help that along, there are some exercises you can do (and your teacher will most likely have some great ones). When ever you are just sitting or standing and not really doing anything, point and flex. Practice feeling the floor and rolling through your feet. In tendu, make sure that you move your foot through demi to point, and this will also help strenghten your arch and improve coordination of your foot.

Also, there are therabands that you can buy to create resistance training for your arches. Of course, consult your doctor/ballet teacher about getting one/using one.

Good luck, and give it time!
Reply:It could be because you have flat feet.

There are a couple of ways that you can fix this depending on how much time and money you want to invest in it.

You can get the pro arch. You can find it at www.discountdance.com. Make sure you follow all of the directions to the T and it will improve your arch.

You can put a hand towel on the floor. Place the ball of your foot on the towel. Keep your heel in place. Use only your toes to pull the towel towards your heel. Begin the movement with the muscles in your arch. This will build the muscles in your arch and give you that lovely shape. It will also improve your pointe work.
Reply:we used to stick our feet under small gaps to inprove our arches... like under the piano (gap betwen the floor and the base of the piano) it hurt but it helped! you worked on it gradually so find a place that it about 2-3cm from the floor and try and get your foot under it as your arch gets better you%26#039;ll be able to get it further under. =)
